Teachers on the Front Line: Preparing for the Deepfake Era

Are you really such a big AI fan?” – this question came from my students yesterday when they wanted to “secretly” use ChatGPT for an assignment. Naturally, they were shocked to find out that not only do I not forbid it, but I encourage it! This is where we started our conversation about artificial intelligence. As a teacher, I thought I was quite confident in navigating the world of AI, understanding its possibilities and potential in education. However, yesterday I had a terrible realization: there is still an area that I had previously overlooked.

We have already touched on many topics, but we had not yet discussed deepfakes. I hadn’t yet told them about this new form of deception, we hadn’t talked about how today, nothing is certain to be as it seems.

We need to be able to impart knowledge that always encourages skepticism, to look into things, to not believe everything at first glance. All the while, ensuring they do not become paranoid.

Talking about deepfakes, I showed them this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxXpB9pSETo

By the end of the class, I was convinced that I need to prepare lesson plans that also support my colleagues in imparting knowledge about AI, including deepfakes. This will soon be available in our club.

Until then, we have the opportunity to keep our knowledge up to date:
